“I’ve been praying for you.”

“Thank you.  I appreciate that.”

“I’ve been thinking about you a lot lately.”

“That’s nice.  I appreciate that, too.”

We’ve all heard these statements before.  They are comforting but somehow they aren’t completely quite what we need.

God WANTS us to pray for each other.  It delights HIM.  But HE doesn’t want it to stop there.  HE also wants us to put ourselves out there for each other.  HE wants us to connect, truly connect.  Mere lip service is not enough.  People need to FEEL loved, not just hear the words.

Thinking about someone and praying for them is awesome and much appreciated by the person and by God.  But people need and deserve MORE.  People are feeling creatures.  We are designed by God to be that way.  We are designed to be in community with one another.  We are designed to help each other, to love each other, to tolerate the differences we have.  We are not designed to be shallow, hiding in our caves, and only speaking snippets instead of taking action.

Let God work out the details about whether this person should or shouldn’t be doing this or that.  Just love people.  We all have our journey to travel that is ours and ours alone.  You may not agree with some things I do in my world and vice-versa.  That doesn’t mean that we avoid each other – unless, of course, someone is being harmed.  My journey.  My walk with God.  My choices.  My mistakes.  The same applies to you.

Love is an action word.  Merely speaking the word does NOT offer the feeling that goes with it.  People need people.  Just listen to the lyrics from the famous song by Barbra Streisand.  Read your bible.  Nowhere in there does it say to pray for your fellow man and hide in your cave.  Go out.  Visit people who are on your mind.  Call them.  Write to them.  Listen to them.  Don’t just send out a blanket cover of “I’m praying for you” or “I’m thinking about you.”  Don’t waste my time.  If I cross your mind more than once in a while, call me, write to me, visit me.  Lip service has become the norm in society and I, for one, am tired of it.  The next time someone crosses your mind for the umpteenth time in a week or a month – DO SOMETHING.  Stop sitting on your butt and texting a quick note saying you’re thinking about them.  God may have put that person on your heart that many times for a reason.  Go find out WHY!

“Make time for people and make people a priority.” ~ Pam Drake   Time is a finite commodity.  Many of us waste so much of it chasing illusions while ignoring the real priorities staring us in the face.  PEOPLE.  Take time and make time for them.  They are the important things in life.

PEACE

Pam
