First of all, this is MY opinion as I see this situation. If you disagree, I am OK with that. If I am missing something that may be swaying my opinion, please share it with me…in a kind, non-name-calling and attacking manner. I do not do “drama” and I will not get into a peeing contest with anyone.
That being said, this might piss some people off and for that I apologize in advance. Generally I steer clear of “hot topics” like this but…I am so over the whole Bruce/Caitlyn Jenner crap. I am glad his/her life is moving forward and happiness is here but, I don’t have to read or hear about it all the time. Our country is so divided on so many issues that it is really scary. I’d much rather focus on uniting our nation instead of the goings-on of celebrities.
And this week I kept seeing commercials that Jenner was receiving the ESPY Arthur Ashe Courage Award. I am sickened. I don’t watch these awards shows. To me they all are just another celebrity evening out on the town with limos and such where they get to wear donated/borrowed designer dresses/tuxes, eat fancy food & drink, take home luxury swag bags and get spotlighted on their “club members”. Jenner is NOT courageous to me. There is no real courage there; not how it really matters to our society as a whole.
Yes – courage for Jenner, him-herself, and of course this may be inspirational & courageous to others dealing with the same issue – courage to change something that you are afraid of the public ramifications…sure….I’ll concede to that. I am NOT trying to take anything away from Jenner or anyone struggling with this particular issue. I do wish that we the people would put things into the proper perspective within our society. (man, I typed “courage award images” into Google to insert a courage image here….but all I see are photos of Caitlyn Jenner are PLASTERED ALL OVER THE PLACE in there… gimme a break! — I DID find one of the person Caitlyn beat out for the top award…it is posted below. I found this after I’d written this blog and after the ESPYs aired…I thought they were going to be sometime later this week, like maybe on Friday or something…I had no idea they had already happened.)

To me real courage (AWARD WINNING COURAGE) is going outside yourself and really helping others….putting yourself on hold…your life on the line…THAT is courage! Our troops are courageous. Our wounded Veterans learning how to live with missing limbs are courageous. Our killed in action Veterans are courageous. Their families dealing with their losses are courageous. Our first responders are courageous. Our teachers in troubled schools with delinquent kids, drugs, and gangs are courageous. Single parents working 2 jobs while taking classes to provide a better life for themselves & their families are courageous.
Where are THEIR awards?!?!?!
Just because a celebrity burbs doesn’t mean the media needs to report it. That stuff used to be reported only on the entertainment media shows. Now it’s in all the media. It’s crazy!
In NO WAY am I attempting to negate all of the great things Jenner has done with his celebrity and status thru his life. I applaud all of the great acts of kindness and generosity he has performed. This was only about the definition of real courage, to ME.
