Having a home business is owning a business. It didn’t cost you tens of thousands or a million dollars to open your doors, but it is a business just the same. It may not be a brick & mortar company, but it is YOURS. We are entrepreneurs. We think outside the box. Sometimes it’s scary, but we keep going because we have a dream. A dream to set our own hours, earn an income to support our families, and a dream to have the time freedom that a 9-5 or shift work doesn’t allow.

Some will fall into the “motivate me” trap. They need incentives and such to keep going, doing their thing within their own business. It shouldn’t be that way. YES, we need support and encouragement. But as for motivation, if you cannot motivate yourself along the way, in your own business, then I think you are setting yourself up for some troubled times. There will not always be a promotion to keep you focused, not always an incentive from your upline to work towards. Do you remember your WHY? Why did you get into the direct selling community? THAT should be your self-motivation that keeps you going. Promos from the company are fabulous, but YOU must keep yourself going.

Here are some simple tips for you:

Respect your time. Respect yourself enough to set your office hours. Set boundaries and adhere to them. Do not make yourself available 24/7-365. THAT is NOT freedom…at least not to me. Also, working your business all the time without set downtime will quickly put you into “burn out” mode. You will rest and such but then you will beat yourself up for not working and quite possibly spin into a downward spiral of self-attacking and such. Don’t do it!  Respect your time. If you don’t, others won’t either.

Share your opportunity with new people every day. Busy-work tasks are necessary, but don’t get so bogged down doing those that you forget to or leave no time to do money-making tasks like sharing your opportunity.  Don’t fall into the trap of the image depicted here.

Have fun. You have to laugh. Get to know your customers and your partners. Laugh with them. Make new people on your team feel at ease. People want to belong to a community. We as humans, are designed for community. “It takes a village.” This applies to so much in life, not just child-rearing.

So, go. Run your home business; but run it right. What you put into it you will eventually get out of it. If you treat it like a hobby, you will get hobby results. But, don’t think that everything is guaranteed. There have been times when I’ve worked my business like crazy and gotten nothing in return. That’s called a dry spell and we all go thru them. Weather those storms. you will be better for it in the long run.  They create a stronger character and compassion for the struggles of your team.

I wish you PEACE, ABUNDANCE, and SUCCESS in your endeavors.
